Good afternoon. The Garretson School District congratulates our VB team on their State Tournament Berth. The tournament is in Rapid City next week, with our first game on Thursday, November 18 at 6:00 PM. We hope that our community will support the girls as they seek that State Championship! Because of the tournament, we will be adjusting the District Schedule next week. Wednesday, November 17 will be a full day, 3:20 dismissal for all students. Thursday, November 18 will be an early release day, with school dismissing for all students at 12:30. Friday, November 19, school is canceled in the District. We appreciate your understanding in these rare, but important occasions as we adjust the schedule to accommodate our students, staff and families who wish to attend the tournament. Best of luck to our team! GO BLUE DRAGONS!

I think they’ve got what it takes!
Meet our Blue Dragon mentors!
These high school students will be sharing their gifts, talents and smiles with our younger Blue Dragons.
If you see them, please, thank them!

Thanks to Miss South Dakota for visiting Garretson today. Great message on taking care of your whole self (mind and body).

A little gift to our 4th grade pen pals from the sophomores. A little spooky holiday spirit.

Today, we lucked out. As I watched students exit the building to get on busses, I saw three "near misses" that really could have resulted in our students, and/or parents getting hurt. In the first near-miss, a parent was picking up their children and had parked next to the busses. While they were just starting to pull off, another student came running back towards the building from the parking lot. The parent saw the student at the last second, brakes were applied just in time, and the student continued on her way. The second was a similar event, with a parent who had "pulled through" in the parking lot, and was just accelerating to drive past the busses and exit. A student ran in front of the car as she was making her way to the street to be picked up by her parent (students don't necessarily expect traffic in this area). In the third incident, one parent was pulling out, but had ignored the "one way" sign and was going to exit through the parking lot entrance. As they were pulling out, another parent was wheeling around the corner to enter the parking lot. Both vehicles had their brakes applied "just in time," and narrowly avoided an accident. All three of these incidents were just a split second away from serious injuries. Please help us to make our bus loading area / parking lot a safe place for our kids.
Parents, please be mindful that the designated parent pick up and drop off location is at the main gym entrance, on the NW side of the building. Please talk to your child(ren) and let them know that this is the area that they can expect you to pick them up. The NE (main entrance) parking lot should only be used by school busses at both drop off (AM) and pick up (PM) times. Essentially, if you see school busses out in front of the building, please do not pull into the parking lot. Additional vehicles moving in that area create a very dangerous situation for our students as they come to school and as they leave.
Please note that we have very clear signage by both the parking lot entrance and the parking lot exit. Please follow the directions on the signs. Our students' safety is one of our top priorities. Please help us to keep all of the kids safe by following the rules and expectations for drop off and pick up. We thank you for your help.
